Hoshino Resorts KAI Anjin

Spectacular ocean views

Located 100 minutes by train from Tokyo, KAI Anjin is a hot spring ryokan in the coastal city of Ito, with rooms and penthouse bath halls that overlook the ocean. In homage to its eponymous 17th century English navigator, better known outside Japan as William Adams, the ryokan has been designed as an art space with a maritime theme. Outside, the San Buena Deck is a spacious area that pays homage to the deck of San Buena Ventura, the first Western ship built in Japan. Enjoy food and beverages that hearken back to the Age of Discovery.
In the 16th century, William Adams sailed across the ocean and landed in Japan. By introducing western boats to the locals, he was granted the title of a Samurai and Japanese name, Miura Anjin, by general Tokugawa. Miura, meaning the name of the city (now Yokosuka) and Anjin meaning compass. Even now locals honor Miura Anjin with Anjin Festival in Ito every August to honor his contribution to build the first western boat in Japan at Ito. On August 10, around 10,000 shots of firework as the closing of the festival.
